- חָשַׁר((cmp. חֲשַׁךְ II a. חָשַׁל) to peel, whence חֲשָׁרָה an implement for removing peels, sieve, from which חָשַׁר) to sift, distil drops as if through a sieve. Midr. Till. to Ps. 18:12, v. חָשַׁךְ. Ib. אדם נוטל כברה וחוֹשֵׁר … אצבעותוכ׳ a man takes a sieve and lets (a liquid) down a height of two or three fingers; before it comes down to the ground, the drops will be mixed up; Yalk. Sam. 160.Gen. R. s. 13 וחוֹשְׁרִים אותו כמין כברה and they (the clouds) distil it (the rain) as if from a sieve; Yalk. Gen. 20; Yalk. Koh. 967. Pi. חִישֵּׁר same. Taan.9b מנוקבות … ומְחַשְּׁרוֹת they (the clouds) are perforated like a sieve and distil water to the ground.
